The Esterházy Privatstiftung will again announce the Esterházy Art Award in 2021. A maximum of 25 artists nominated for the award will be selected by an international professional jury from the submitted applications and an exhibition will open at the Ludwig Museum from the short list.
The cultural significance of the Esterházy Art Award lies not only in the awarding of the prize, but also in the related exhibition. Due to its size, central role and careful selection of nominated artists, it is also a benchmark overview of the young Hungarian art scene. Founded in 2009, the award is aimed at supporting contemporary art and international dialogue. The prize of € 5000 per person is awarded by an independent jury every two years, to a maximum of three Hungarian artists under 45 years. The competition is open to painting and techniques bordering on painting, as well as to installations using these techniques.
